It can be a very difficult and upsetting decision to go back to work after having children. Issues such as finding the right childcare, finding a flexible and understanding employer or trying to balance work and home can be very stressful.

Try contacting your local colleges or training centers to find out what they’ve got available.

Many women say they feel guilty leaving their children to go back to work. But it is important to remember you will still be there for your children and have time to spend with them. This does by no means mean you’re a bad mother. Taking the opportunity to go out to work can bring you and your family more prospects and security.

If you require flexible working hours, your employer may be able to accommodate this. However, if you feel you are being discriminated in anyway due to working flexible hours, having childcare responsibilities, being a working mum or for any other reason.

Young children often respond better when they have a regular routine. Working 9 to 5, will give your children a familiar schedule, as apposed to working irregular hours or unpredictable overtime. Discuss working hours with your boss to give you an idea of what you’ll be working and then you can organize your home life to suit your new schedule.

Lack of confidence may be a big hurdle for many mothers returning to work. Returning back to the workplace, new routines and responsibilities can be very daunting. Try to remind yourself of all your strengths and why you will be an asset to your employer. By improving your confidence you will ooze confidence in the workplace and this should be reflected in your performance.
